What Does the following ultrasound Result Indicate?
i m suffering form hepatitis b for last four years ....but the virus in inactive ....i have done DNA teat continuously after every six months ...the virus is less then detectable limit....as a part of my regular check up i did the US yesterday ...it shows lever is enlarged in size and showing slightly coarse parenchymal echotexture .......is it a serious condition ? ....impression says Hepatomegaly
Coarsened hepatic echotexture is an ultrasound finding where the normal uniform smooth hepatic echotexture of the liver is lost. This can be due to chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis or hemochromatosis. Cirrhosis can be one of important long term complications of of long alcohol abuse or infectious diseases like Hepatitis C. I advise you to consult your treating doctor.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
